Porto Azzurro: an idea to spend Carnival in Tuscany

There are several reasons to visit Elba Island in winter. We want to give you one, which will allow you to spend a short vacation dedicated to fun. We are talking about the 2019 edition of the Porto Azzurro Carnival.

The program

The official program of the Porto Azzurro Carnival 2019 hasn’t been communicated. But we know that:

• February 10^th will be the day of the masked ball with the music of the Castellina Pasi orchestra. At the end of the event, the best mask award ceremony will take place, a small tradition that has been recovered just this year.
• From February 17^th, the real Carnival will begin: all the participants will have fun thanks to the allegorical float parades, the masks, the music and the “nostalgic moments”. In addition to this, several events for children will be scheduled.

How to get

From Portoferraio, it’s easy to get to Porto Azzurro. You just have to:

• Take the county road 24 towards south;
• Take the county road 26 and follow the road signs to Porto Azzurro.

The journey by car takes about twenty minutes (car that you can take on the ferry).

Not only Carnival

The Carnival is a good “pretext” to spend a vacation and a vacation need an itinerary that will allow you to discover this part of the island. In particular, we recommend you to:

• Visit Porto Azzurro, which, among forts, beaches, sanctuaries and the famous (as ancient) pine of Monserrato, will give you some of the best memories of this trip;
• Get to Capoliveri, the second town of the island: just for example, some of the things to see here are Forte Focardo, the sanctuary of the Madonna delle Grazie and, if you are hikers, Mount Calamita.
