Mine trekking Elba Island 2015: a walk in the Vecchia Ferrovia

Elba Island has an ancient “mining” history. The iron was extracted since the Etruscan era. The exploitation of the subsoil continued until 1981, when the last mine was closed. Today, this past represents an inestimable treasure for the industrial archeology. And you can discover it thanks to the mine trekking in the Vecchia Fattoria.
The event will be held in Capoliveri, at the Calamita Ginecro mining compendium, on 20th September 2015. It’s an afternoon excursion at Calamita mines – Cantiere del Vallone. And you’ll also see the Innamorata beach, one of the most romantic (and obviously beautiful) of the isle.
Accompanied by an expert guide, during the way you’ll have the possibility to pick up some small mining examples, both of copper and iron. At the end there will be the visit at the museum of the Vecchia Officina. And finally, a degustation of the typical “schiaccia briaca” of Capoliveri (a dessert prepared with raisins, pine nuts, walnuts, hazelnuts, almonds and a glass of Aleatico wine).
Info about the path:
- Start: 02.00 PM
- Meeting point: Capoliveri, at the parking lot of Innamorata beach
- Duration: 5 hours
