The cableway of Monte Capanne, Elba Island: all the info you need

The island of Elba is especially renowned for the beauty of its nature and for the unforgettable panoramas it can offer. Such as the one you can admire from the top of Monte Capanne. And there is a cableway that takes you up there in a short time.

Monte Capanne

It is the highest peak on Elba Island. The characteristic that makes Mount Capanne unique is the fact that it is composed mainly of large granite blocks: these blocks give it a very particular appearance, similar to the great Alpine peaks but with the sea nearby.

If you are hikers, you can get to the top of Monte Capanne on foot: there are two paths departing from Marciana.

Where it is and how to get there

The paths are not particularly demanding. However, if you want a more comfortable solution to get to the top of Monte Capanne, you can use the cableway, which is located in Pozzarello, near the town of Marciana.

From Marciana, you just have to follow the road signs to the cable car: on foot, it takes less than 15 minutes.

You can easily get to Marciana starting from Portoferraio, one of the most important ports for the ferries to Elba Island: you just have to take strada provinciale 24 to Procchio and strada provinciale 25 to Marciana; by car, it takes about 30 minutes.

Opening times

• In high season (June, July, August and September), the Monte Capanne cableway operates from 10am to 5:30pm;
• In low season, the Monte Capanne cableway operates from 10am to 5pm.
