Elba Island, wonderful paradise of the Tuscan Archipelago, is renowned for its sea and its beaches. In this naturalistic setting, on August 7th, Marina di Campo will celebrate the festa di San Gaetano 2017, patron of the city. This religious event is the occasion to promote tradition and folklore of the island.
The program of festa di San Gaetano 2017:
- 7pm – As the tradition requires, the event begins with the Vespers celebration at the Parish Church in Via Roma.
- 7pm – The procession will take place along the streets of Marina di Campo, to Piazza Da Verrazzano, where the Solemn Mass will be celebrated, after which the statue of the patron saint will be placed on a boat for the traditional blessing from sea.
- 10pm – Will take place the concert of the “Archimossi”, an itinerant orchestra whose musicians play only bow instruments.
- Midnight – It’s the most anticipated moment of the event: the fireworks show near the sea.
Since you are there
If, from 7pm, you will enjoy the folklore of the event, during the day we suggest you to discover the so-called Anello occidentale dell’isola d’Elba (literally, “the western ring of Elba Island”): it’s the coastal road from Procchio to Marina di Campo, a road that will give you unforgettable panoramas.
How to get there
From Portoferraio (one of the main ports for ferries to Elba Island), take the county road 25 towards south and follow the road signs to Campo nell’Elba and Marina di Campo.
