Between sea and mountains: 5 excursions to do in November on Elba island

We can suggest a destination that will not disappoint you: we are talking about Elba island, in the Tuscan Archipelago, beautiful and very easy to reach. And these are the five hikes between sea and mountains that you should not miss out on.

1. Capraia

From the port of Portoferraio, the main town of Elba, many ferries leave every day and take visitors to Capraia. Where there are many things to see and with a day trip you can see some of the most beautiful places, such as the beaches of Cala Rossa and Punta della Teglia, the fort of San Giorgio and the lighthouse of Capraia.

2. Hermitages

After the fall of the Roman Empire, the population began to move from the coast to the hinterland. It is from this period that they began to build those little treasures of history, tradition and devotion that are the hermitages of Elba island: there are six in all and each of them there is an excursion full of charm.

3. Pianosa

Another excursion by boat, this time to Pianosa island (and also this time starting from Portoferraio). To see there are fort Teglia, San Giovanni cove, Specola Palace, the church of San Gaudenzio, the catacombs of Pianosa, Marzocco, the lighthouse of Pianosa.

4. Western ring of the island of Elba

This is an excursion to do by car or motorbike. There is a road that runs from Procchio to Marina di Campo, which is referred to by the name of Western Ring of Elba island. It is a succession of little coves and small picturesque villages, all to see: if you like this idea, be prepared to make several stops.

5. Mount Capanne

Finally, we suggest you to walk to the top of Mount Capanne, the highest peak of the island. The climb is not particularly demanding and, once at the top, you will embrace the whole island with the look: according to many, the most beautiful panorama that you can admire during a holiday here.
