Elba: discover the suggestive Etruscan Roads

Etruscans had an important role in the story of Elba Island. They left several traces of their passage. This is also one of the several secrets that Elba Island gives all people who choose to visit it. And to discover this event you can participate in the 2015 edition of Le vie degli Etruschi (“The roads of Etruscans”), event that will take place from May 1 to December 31.

The four parts of Le vie degli Etruschi itinerary are:

• Torre della Linguella. It’s one of the most important and famous Medici fortresses in Portoferraio. With forte Falcone and forte Stella, torre della Linguella is one of the three cornerstones of Portoferraio ancient defences.
• Le Grotte. Here, in this place near Portoferraio, there one of the most ancient Roman mansions of Elba Island. And this is also an important Etruscan village, where it’s possible to see ancient traces of the Etruscan civilization.
• Centro minerario di Rio nell’Elba. Etruscans knew that Elba Island subsoil was very rich, and they mined iron from this subsoil. Today there are several archeological sites where Etruscan mined iron.
• Il borgo di Marciana. The last stop of this itinerary. Marciana Marina is a very ancient town too, where there are several ruins of Etruscan civilization.
